We place Technical Program Managers and Senior TPMs at venture-backed SaaS, cloud, developer-tools, and AI-native companies.
TPM hiring is where cross-team execution capacity is manufactured. We calibrate every TPM search against the program scope, org shape, and the engineering leader the TPM will partner with.
Why this market is hard to recruit for. And how we solve each one.
Program TPM vs. platform TPM vs. AI/ML TPM are different jobs.
Senior TPM searches close on written-communication samples and exec-review history.
The repeatable system behind our 14-day average hire time.
Deep intake with founders, hiring managers, and engineering or GTM leadership. We map must-haves, dealbreakers, comp band, equity philosophy, remote posture, and the traits that predict success at your stage.
We build a fresh list of 80–150 qualified candidates from named target companies, adjacent SaaS categories, and open-source or product-led communities. Real research from a recruiter fluent in software hiring.
Personalized outreach from a senior recruiter who can actually discuss your product, stack, and stage. Response rates run 3-5x higher than generalist agencies because the first message reads like it came from another operator.
Five to eight vetted candidates with structured briefs covering technical or commercial fit, motivation, comp expectations, and risk factors. Not a resume dump — a decision document.
We manage offer construction, counter-offer scenarios, resign coaching, and start-date negotiation. Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee at no additional fee.
Original observations from live searches in this specialty.
Senior TPM searches close on writing quality — status docs, exec reviews, incident retros — not conversational polish. We collect anonymized writing samples during the shortlist stage and share them with the hiring manager alongside the resume.
TPMs coordinating ML platform, eval, and inference programs are pattern-matched from a small pool of former ML engineers and infra TPMs. Classic product TPMs rarely translate. We source AI/ML TPMs from a separate map maintained against the frontier-lab and AI-native pool.
TPMs who have owned monthly or bi-weekly exec-review artifacts at 1000+ engineer orgs behave fundamentally differently from those who have run scrum ceremonies at Series B. We calibrate seniority to the actual review cadence the role will run.
Technical program management is one of the least standardized titles in software, which makes hiring for it unusually error-prone. At some companies the TPM is a delivery coordinator managing dependencies and schedules across teams. At others the TPM owns technically substantive programs — a platform migration, a compliance implementation, a multi-quarter infrastructure change — and is expected to make architectural tradeoff decisions in the process. The compensation difference between those two jobs can exceed a hundred thousand dollars.
Demand in 2026 is concentrated where organizational complexity outpaced process: companies past a hundred engineers running multiple interdependent teams, companies executing large migrations, and companies facing regulated delivery requirements. The common trigger is not headcount growth but the moment when cross-team dependencies begin causing slipped commitments that no single team owns.
The strongest candidates come with quantified delivery history. A TPM who can describe a program with its original timeline, the actual outcome, the specific interventions they made, and the dependency they unblocked is demonstrating the exact skill being purchased. The pool that can do this is much smaller than the pool holding the title.
The sourcing pools we map before outreach begins on this specialty.
Amazon, Google, and Microsoft TPMs bring mature program mechanics. Calibrate on whether they can operate without a program management office behind them.
The strongest pool for technically substantive programs, because they can evaluate a dependency claim rather than record it.
TPMs who have run migrations, data center moves, or cloud transitions. Directly relevant where the program is a technical change rather than a feature.
Experienced at driving programs without formal authority, which is the defining constraint of the role at most companies.
Establish the largest program they personally owned: teams involved, duration, and what they were accountable for. Precision separates owners from coordinators.
A cross-team dependency that threatened a date and what they specifically did. Look for direct intervention rather than escalation as the only tool.
Have an engineer walk them through a system and ask them to identify the risky integration points. TPMs who cannot follow the architecture cannot manage its risk.
Ask them to write an executive update for a program that is behind schedule. Honest, decision-oriented writing is the core deliverable of this role.
Include engineering managers whose teams they would coordinate. Influence without authority is either evident in that conversation or absent.
A TPM cannot substitute for missing managers. Programs staffed this way fail and the TPM is usually blamed for an organizational gap.
Process certifications say little about whether someone can unblock two engineering directors who disagree. Ask for the specific program and the specific intervention.
A TPM who must influence directors while holding a mid-level title struggles structurally. Level the role to the audience it must move.

Recruits Lab is a specialized technical program manager recruiting firm serving venture-backed SaaS, enterprise software, cloud, and developer-tools companies. We combine functional depth with a subscription pricing model and a 90-day replacement guarantee. Our average time-to-hire is 14 days.
Traditional contingency firms charge 20 to 30 percent of first-year base salary. Recruits Lab offers a subscription model starting at $7,500 per month with unlimited active roles, or a success-based contingency option — both include a 90-day replacement guarantee.
Common talent backgrounds include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Apple, Stripe, and other high-caliber SaaS, cloud, and technology companies. These are examples of candidate backgrounds only — not client logos or endorsements.
A cloud infrastructure lead search had stalled twice. Candidates with strong managed-service backgrounds could not speak to the cost model, and the CFO had made spend reduction an explicit condition of the headcount approval.
We sourced from cloud provider architects and FinOps practitioners rather than general backend engineers, and added a cost exercise using an anonymized version of the company's own bill shape to the loop.
Hired in twenty-four days. The finalist presented a committed-spend restructuring in week three of employment that the finance team had scoped at a full quarter of work.
"The shortlist understood our cost model better than we did. That is not something we got from a generalist agency."
"They knew which of our requirements were real and which were copied from a job description template. It saved us a month."
Yes. AI/ML TPMs are one of our fastest-growing sub-markets.
Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee. If a hire leaves or does not work out within the first 90 days, we run the search again at no additional fee.
Yes. We routinely run confidential and stealth-mode searches for executive replacements, first-of-function hires, and pre-launch teams.
